LED Headlights

I drive my truck sometimes in the dark and have been thinking lately of installing LED headlights. I put them in my Harley's a few years ago and found them to be well worth the cost on a bike. I started to research them for cars and have found next to nothing on the web. Seems like they market them for the Jeeps but that is all. Am I missing something here, or do they not work on a regular vehicle.
Harley uses the JW Speaker manufacturer and I do like the looks of them so I would probably go that way. My questions are they legal? Is the wiring harness enough to handle them?
I believe the answer to both questions is yes but need another opinion.
Thank for any input.
Mike

I bought a set of LED headlight bulbs I intend to use in my 48f1, which is currently in the paint shop. I bought a set of 7" headlight conversions that use H4 halogen bulbs. These are pretty common items. Then I bought a set of LED headlight bulbs to replace H4 bulbs. I bought the LED's off eBay. They are not easy to find. Mine are 40 watt LED's, and I paid about $80 for the set which come with a driver electronic boxes and finned heatsinks attached to the lamps. I powered them up in the 7" headlight adapters in the garage, and they are insanely bright. Hope this gives you an option to look at.

Mike, a followup to my earlier post on the LED headlight bulbs. I checked my bulbs and they are 40Watt, COB LED's (pretty new technology), and are rated at 3200 Lumens each. Some H4 LED bulbs are not bright enought for headlights, and many ads will say so if you read the fine print. Looks like you can now get LED headlights bulbs rated for even more than the 3200 Lumens I have, but 3200 is more than enough.

Hello!

We sell a 7" LED headlight, it has 16 LEDs and is 1500 lumens. They are pricey though.

It uses the same 3 prong plug that a normal sealed housing would have on the back

LED headlight - Mid Fifty F-100 Parts

The manufacturer mentions this:

WARNING: LED Headlights Meets Current DOT/SAE Photometric Requirements for Headlights. DOT/SAE is in the Process of Drafting Guidelines Specifically for LED Headlights. However, as of November 2011, DOT/SAE Have not Published the Guidelines for LED Headlights. We recommend these Headlights for Show/Off-Road use until DOT//SAE Establishes Formal Guidelines for LED Headlights.
The dates are from 2011 though, so I would imagine they would of created requirements by now.

I would say yes, looks like they are made to replace regular H4 bulbs without anything extra, no matter what housing it is in, it would be interesting to see the difference between doing that and ours, this would be much cheaper.

LED headlights have caught my interest as of late. These are the ones your most likely to find:

JW Speaker

Truck Lite

Peterson

I like the look of the Peterson the best but I really wish they didn't have their name across the front like that.

Thanks for the response...
Mid Fifty, I appreciate that you are now offering the LED headlight assembly...I don't think that the light that you have available right now will work for me.....
I like the appearance of the JW Speaker, it has a rounded face on it, to my knowledge they are the only one that does...the Peterson has the most attractive headlight, I just wish they weren't so proud of their name.
rswhitmore and smallelo....I did not know that any one made an LED bulb that will fit into an H4 halogen assembly. I am going to investigate that avenue.

The Peterson lights are ~$180 a piece? Hm. A little spendy.
