I have possibly a 35, 36, or 37 ford 1/2 ton pickup. It also came with an extra cab from the same era. I was wondering in what area (frame, cab, or other area) I might be able to find any vin or identification numbers?
thanks in advance,
Welcome to FTE! I hope that you return often and find this site useful useful.
Try looking on top of the frame next to the steering gear. The number should also be on the top of the top of the bellhousing, except the 4 cylinder where it's on the left, and maybe on the head. But since the engine and tranny may have been swapped out, the frame number is the best one to go by.
in addition to the clues already given...you will know a 37 grill from the others as it has horizontal bars instead of the vertical like its predessesors. But not oval like the 38/39.
also the firewall of a 37 will have a battery tray unlike the earlier ones.
Then there are the hoods....the 35/36 hoods have older style louvres and the 37 has a narrower row that is bordered.
Just out of curiosity, does yours, if it is a 37, have an ashtray in the dash?
I also have a 37 and it, so far, is the only one i have seen with an ashtray...a little round pullout.
