DEF usage

Hey guys - I just rolled 1000 miles so I thought I'd top of my DEF to get an idea of how much it used. Well I was surprised when it gulped down almost 2 gallons. Is this correct for 1000 miles or did the dealer not fill it up all the way??

As far as the dealer topping it off, your guess would be as good as ours. Maybe better.

The dealer didn't fill the tank all the way...I'll use 2.5 gal 3500 miles (give or take) when not towing anything.

Welcome to the boards. Congrats on your new truck..

They don't fill it up at the PDI.

I think my first tank went about 7000 miles and since then I've not noticed at all...

just fill up periodically when I pass a pilot/ flying J with the def pumps so I don't have to use the bottle...

I got the 500 miles to empty caution on the dash display so I filled it with nearly 5 gallons, maybe a cup or two left in the jug when it overflowed, at the 7000 mile point. My Edge CTS was showing 32% and the dash info center said less than half. I never got the 800 miles to empty caution tho.

The most DEF mileage I have had is about 7000 miles. Since that experience, I just top it off at oil change time. This is mixed towing and unloaded driving.

13 or newer models don't have the 800 mile warning.

They have the 500, then 200, then countdown.

I get about 1 gal/1000 mi. When towing tho it seems to use much less DEF. I seem to recall reading similar results on this forum.

That explains it. Thanks.

Actually mine was counting down in the 3-400 range if I didn't hit the OK button.

Just the opposite of unloaded driving.
