Power Steering Issues
1978 bronco, power steering getting air in system, but can't find out how. Installed rebuild pump, bled the air worked fine, then all of a sudden it's making noise and full of air again. Moved cooler hoses and re-bled the system, worked fine for a few days and then it went out again, full of air, going to by-pass the cooler and see if that helps,
any suggestions, thinking maybe the control valve on the gear box might be the issue ??? but leaning again to the autozone rebuilt pump

well the zone is garbage so that indeed could be the issue. I would recommend upgrading to a Saginaw ps pump. typically find them in similar year vans. Also are you turning the wheel lock to lock to work the air out?

I replaced the steering gear and power steering pump (all from Autozone). My pump is noisy too. They even supplied an "info card" stating the pump is designed to have an amount of "noise"!! Hmmm. I believe a saginaw swap will be in my future once I get my 93 back together!

I installed a used Saginaw pump from a 94 fullsize van 6yrs ago and there is no whine and is improved over the stock pump for sure. I also installed a Red-Head steering box for further improvement, no point having any other steering box installed as there is no comparison. I followed all this up with a tie rod flip, steering is much better that my daughter was driving the lifted bronco to highschool for about 2yrs.
