Difference is mainly in the tailgate, the shape of the plastic top edge piece and the bed caps too I guess. So, I guess that could make a difference in the fit of a topper or tonneau.
What about for a bed liner? I have one out of my 2006 F350 for sale and a guy wants it for his 2008. I told him it was different, but he still wants it. I am wondering what the differences are? Maybe the tailgate?
aside from the tail gate issue.....my 08 side wall rail top edges are much wider than my 05 was.
The topper search is a tough one on the used market.....I sold a top that I took off an f-250, which the seller took off a chevy, and when you look up the serial number with the manufactuer, it was built for a dodge.
My current top was made for my year and make vehicle.
Time I spent looking and the few buy, try and sells, makes me wish I would have bought new from the start.

I've looked at a few used hard covers and this is what I've found to be different. I've contemplated swapping out my tailgate cap to the older style (no step on mine) just to use one off an older model.
