Can anyone tell me what could possible cause my 94 7.3idi turbo vin code k to drop idle to around 200 rpm?

First, welcome to the forum!

Second, could you please describe the problem a bit better.
Does it idle faster and then drop after it warms up?
Does it start missing/idle rough?
Is there anything else that accompanies the drop?

Sometimes when I stop it drops idle to about 200 toms other then that it starts and runs fine.when the rpms drop the overdrive light flashes.could this be the engine speed sensor? Thanks for your help

I am assuming you see that on your tach, do you hear any drop in engine RPMs/change in the sound of the engine?

Yes the engine idle speed drops not just the tack. And the overdrive light flashes until I give the truck throttle to raise the rpm

I am assuming you have an automatic due to having an overdrive light. Does it do it in park/neutral or only in gear?

Does it do it when cold or only when it is hot?

Cold or hot and in gear when stopping or slowing down. No transmission codes trams shifts and acts fine. And yes it is an auto e40d trans.

It sounds like it may be in your transmission if it only does it in gear. Does it rev back up if you shift it to neutral?
Hopefully someone with more experiece with the E4OD will chime in.

No it doesn't rev back up when put in neutral. I had it checked for trams codes and it had none. That's why I thought about the engine speed sensor?

Engine speed sensor/tach sensor should not affect the engine RPMs. Perhaps the linkage for the accellerator is a bit sticky. Have you tried spraying it with a lubricant (silicone spray works well)?

the od light flashes when it dies down that much because that low of an idle would frig up the sensor (TPS/FIPL) and make it way out of it's proper range.since it's doing that, you'd have to suspect something external going on rather than internal.i was going to suggest running some ATF through the fuel system but with the od light flashing,it sounds as if the linkage/idle screw is really allowing the idle to return way too far down.i wonder if the idle screw even vibrated right away lol.200 rpm...man i would think she'd just stall right out.

I don't know how helpful this will be, but check your trans fluid. Dad has a 92 dakota, and he topped off the trans one day (Having overdrive problems, fluid wasn't below min, but was getting there), and ever so slightly overfilled it. It acted normal, until you were slowing down, it would down shift way later, and would stall when you were coming to a stop. Turns out even a little extra trans fluid is too much.

If there is too much, siphoning it out isn't too hard.

mine was stalling after taking it out of storage. I would be running and when i came to a stop, the rpm dropped and it stalled. I removed the fuel filter, filled it with Diesel Clean, ran it for a bout 15 seconds and left it sit over night. problem solved.
