We just posted what I thought was a 1966 F250 on craigs list. The previous owner called and said that it's actually a 1966 F260. He also said that it was made for the government. This intrigued me so I am trying to find out more. If it help the vin# f26yc861426. Any help would be appreciated. Couldn't find a place to look up this vin not enough #'s. http://nmi.craigslist.org/cto/4680688569.html This is the link to the craigs list post.
I want to know where do these owners think there was a f260? Amazingly this isn't the first or even second time I've seen threads mentioning being a f260. Everyone's right on the vin starts with F25 it's a F250 2WD if F26 it's a F250 4x4

How many people can decode a VIN? Heck, how many FTE members can decode a VIN?
When I joined FTE (11/4/2006), no one was decoding VIN's. Since then I've decoded well over 1,000.

Not to many Bill, I've seen lots of failed attempts at decoding VIN's here on FTE. I wish I could get a copy of the books so I could do all my own decoding.

1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog available on a C/D from hipoparts.com.
Also available from hipo: 1948/56, 1957/63, 1973/79 & 1980/89 truck catalogs.
^ wonder how reliable the information is on decoding the trucks? From the reviews on the book one said great for decoding purposes while the other said it was useless. But sounds like the bad review they wanted it to be more of a restoration manual. I'd like to have it in paper form so I can have it with me on the road if I find one for sale while on road trips or something.

It's crap and has been since it was originally published in the 1970's.
Cars & Parts wasn't the original publisher, I don't recall who was...but I did know both of the original authors personally, as they were members of the Fabulous 50's Ford Club as I was.
Originally this was known as the Red Book, it's been mentioned here on FTE several times. My reaction has been the same, it's a POS!
