ZF 5 Rebuild??

ZF 5 Rebuild??
I've decided there's no way I'm paying $400--$800 for a used sb ZF from a jy, when it has untold miles on it.
So I'm considering pulling one myself and rebuilding it.
Has anyone rebuilt a ZF manual?? Is it feasible for a novice? Do you have a link for how to, or a source for info? Nothing on youtube.
I depend on my truck and don't want to put a trans in it that is questionable.

Here's a good link, I got lucking with my ZF when I bought it, threw it in and it worked just fine.

It's irrelavent, he is putting the ZF behind a 300. A deisel or BB trans would be useless to him.

I found an old old friend who runs Tri County Gear, so I may go back to using a Borg Warner T85N, with the R11 overdrive. Having a buddy able to make gears lessens my fears about not being able to find parts. It cost less and be less trouble b/c it bolts right to the C6 without d.shaft lengthening.

Have you considered the Mazda 5 speeds that Ford used to put behind small blocks in F150s? I believe you can get them cheaper than the ZFs.
