I have a 1970 F250 with a stock 390. It has a points distributor in it that has been converted to Pertronix. I've determined the vac advance can has gone out. The parts store list several part numbers for my application based on the distributor number. The distributor is installed and I don't wish to pull it at this time. The vacuum advance can has an Autolite part number 12378 and a big 7 stamped next to Autolite. Can anyone help me cross this to a part number at a parts store? Or can you tell me an application with not so many choices that will work for my needs. This is on an old work truck no hot rod, it's a tow vehicle.
The vacuum advance does help with fuel economy - but for your application it may not matter much or might be more trouble than it's worth. It does add to driveability though. Lots of universal can replacements offered in the catalogs, tho I have never had to replace one. Reman distributors with vac can included are around 80 bucks,
A new dizzy is pretty spiffy if the old one is wore out. This looks to be the correct advance replacement can # from Mac's (I'm sure it is offered through other vendors too), adjusted with a 3/32 or 2.5mm allen through the vacuum port. 12 turns fully clockwise is max vac.
