Another HPFP Question

Hi everyone, Ive been a lurker at this sight since 2005 when I had my first diesel Super Duty and then my next 2011 Super Duty 6.7 bought new. I've gained a lot of knowledge from you folks and am very grateful to you all and grateful that I never had any serious issues with my trucks until now. Yesterday I had to have it towed to the dealership because the engine would spin but would not start. Today they are telling me its running but the HPFP has intermittent pressure and will more than likely won't start again if I take it home. They are waiting for an answer from a Ford hot line to see it anyone in the country had a similar problem. I am wondering if any one on this sight has had a similar experience.
Thank you.

Good luck, sounds symptomatic of an HPFP failure. I remember reading a thread when someone changed their turbo charger and had this type of failure afterward. Another had a similar failure due to dumping DEF in their fuel tank. Then there's another infamous one that I will not site.

They will be conducting a series of inspection to ensure that you don't have water or DEF contamination in your fuel (or anything else for that matter). It does seem like insurance has picked up the tab on these failures occasionally as well depending on the circumstances. Either way good luck and keep the forum apprised.

They will check for rust. If they find any, Ford will not warranty it. Hopefully your insurance will step up to the plate in the event you have a failure. There was a very interesting thread on PSA where Ford denied coverage on a members truck saying it needed a fuel system. Truck was throwing P0087 and 0088 codes with reduced power. Insurance company denied it also, so he just swapped the VCV out and said the truck has been running fine ever since. Good luck.

If they find crystals they won't warranty it either. DEF contamination.

In the fuel filters.

Ok, here is the latest on my fuel pump. After the dealership ran a bunch of tests requested by Ford Engineering It turns out the last test they did which was to check for metal in the plumbing and they found some. This means that the fuel pump was failing and would have to be replaced along with the entire fuel system because there is just no way to flush out all that metal.
Next was the big question, how much and who was going to pay for it? Well today must be my lucky day. It turns out that my truck only has 39.000 miles on it so it can be covered under the emissions warranty. The cost of the new pump kit itself was $8300 and labor about $4000. My next question was are the new parts updated and do I get a new warranty? The new parts are up dated and Ford Warranties the new parts for 12 months.
Thanks all for the comments.

That's great to hear! I believe the parts warranty on everything Motorcraft is 2 years/unlimited mileage though.

When the first HPFP issue hit this board, someone posted a proceedure booklet with pictures that showed exactly what the tech is suppose to verify within the fuel system. I believe it might have been posted by one of our fine supporting techs. Has anyone still got a copy of that?

Good on you! Strange they use the emissions warranty, but I'd take anything they give me vs. flipping that bill! I still wonder if updates have been made to the CP4, did they engineer-out some of the more issues with it.

As for another poster, here's a website that shows some parts that are inspected for DEF and rust: Stuff they look at.

That was me and you are correct it had the same issues. I am glad to hear you got it covered. That is one hell of a bill to swallow.
