Started some installation work tonight (heated seat switch), but the forum photo functions are freaking out right now:

Error 503 Backend fetch failed

...once that gets fixed I can upload the pics.

Replaced the stereo and mounted the seat heater switch while I had everything apart.

The stereo has a USB connector you can use to connect thumb drives or iPods/iPads. My old clip cracked:

TIP: Use a Zip Tie around the notch to hold the USB connector in place.

I had to mount my switch below the USB port. Had I known the future via my crystal ball, I'd have mounted the USB port higher...as it is now, I had to mount it low on the panel and that caused issues I'll cover later in the post.

The switch is adjustable for driver and passenger, and has a face plate bigger than the opening (your hole doesn't have to be perfect)

It's a deep switch...

...and it has notches at the top and bottom to keep it straight.

Took a sanding bit from the dremel to push out the opening a bit, then squared it with a razor knife.

As I mentioned above, with the USB port so low, I wanted to leave a decent amount of material between the USB port and the switch. My switch mounted so low I needed to cut away the dash clip receiver behind it to keep the switch from popping out.

Tip: Vacuum the dash and get up all the plastic particles before taking photos for the forum!

The new seat covers are in, but this weekend I'm slammed so the seat covers/heaters won't be completed for a while.

They are "AM Companies" (?) brand, found on Amazon. Carbon fiber, 2 piece kits (one pair per seat, bottom and back). Because they are carbon fiber, you can make cuts in them to accommodate the bull rings, etc.

I'm guessing I'll probably need to splice in some additional wires in to the harness - I haven't measured it out yet, but to get the wiring from the dash down under the carpet and back up under the seats and allow room for the seat track to slide may required a bit more wire (methinks this kit was thought out for a car more than a big SUV).

Switch lights up blue (icon) and red (setting *****) [can't have everything].

Here is the description from Amazon:
Each Seat Includes Two Pads - One for the Seat Back and One for the Seat Bottom. Two Kits are included to Accommodate two seats. A Single Switch has Two Dials with 5 Settings - a separate dial for each seat. Each seat can have a separate temperature. Electronic thermostat (built into each pad) regulates the electricity / temperature circulating within the carbon fiber seat heating pad. This system regulates the flow of power and maintains a narrower temperature range whether in a high or low setting. Example: The high setting will have a constant range between 120°F to 125°F. The low setting ranges between 110°F to 115°F. These respective temperatures are maintained at these respective levels. Backrest & Seat Bottom Heating Pads -- 11" x 18" Pads are approximately 1/32" thick. Either pad can be installed in back or bottom. Length can be trimmed to any size. Electrical Specs Wattage: 24~36 Watts per Pad, 48~60 Watts per seat Current Draw: 3 Amps on Low Heat Setting and 5 Amps on High Setting per Seat. It is a 12 V system. If you have always wanted to add factory like heated seats to your Vehicle or Boat, then this Heated Seat kit is the ideal kit and the ideal solution whether you own a car, SUV, Truck, Boat or Plane. Carbon Fiber technology is the best seat heating pad material in the marketplace. Installation may require removal and re-installation of seat and seat covers, as well as basic knowledge of the vehicle's wiring or professional installation.

Aluminum tube and connectors shipped today...estimated delivery October 20, 2014 - October 23, 2014

WOOOHOOO! Can't wait! This should actually go together (dry fit) pretty quick - it's all miter cuts and I have everything measured out. To assemble it should be simple drilling (pilot holes) or in some circumstances c-clamps and self-tapping screws.

Hardest part (the first time around) might be needing to tweak where the upright supports go to line up with the drawer slide mounting holes.

After that, it's a rubber mallet to pound in the connectors and it's "lego-time".

Still not sure what I'll be using for the handle/lock - if I'll go with a locking/switch setup (more $) or something simple I can source at Lowes.

Trust me, I'll post photos of me crying next to a pile of ash if my rig burns, so you'll know.

Moving the drawer build thread to this one:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post14801777

The rest I'll keep here (seat heater, air horn, warning lighting, etc.).

Busy weekend ahead, so work won't start until next week Wednesday or so.
