Big trucks need loud horns!

Hi Guys

Or to put it another way - Yet another Hadley air horn installation.

First up made a mounting bracket for the horns.......

...to mount them on the frame.

Then another bracket to mount the air tank, wiring....

....and compressor.

Finally fitted an illuminated switch to change from OEM horns to the Hadleys. This switch illuminates dimly with the parking lights and brighter when switched to the Hadleys.

Just incase anyone is interested in fitting some here is my wiring diagram.

Now off to provoke bowel movements in old ladies

Regards

Dereck

Nice set-up... Look familiar!

Nice job with the installation of your Hadleys!!!

Your horn mounting spot and fabrication look alot like mine...

Prior to your install did you see my set up here on FTE?

-OR-

Do great minds think alike?

In case anyone wants to see my set-up or "searched" their way to this post, here's a link to how I installed mine (you can never have too much info!):

Hadley Air Horns Installed!!!! Pics Too!! - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

One more thing... I like where you mounted your compressor. I had to replace mine after 1 year... here's a quote from a previous post I made regarding the compressor:

...you are using a VIAIR 380C compressor... I replaced my original Hadley compressor with the 380C... That is a great compressor! I have it mounted in the same spot as the old one (you can see in the pic). BUT... I ran the inlet for the compressor into the X's cabin.

My old one failed due to it's inlet had only a small filter that was open to the elements... The 380C has the option of using tubing to remotely mount the inlet filter.

Once again... Grrreat set-up!!! (Reps given too).

Hi 71-4R3SONS

I did see you set up here on FTE and let's say I drew inspiration from it

Many thanks for the compliments

I have a single grover on my truck, with 2 - 1 gallon air tanks, and an old junkyard sourced firestone air suspension pump to fill em. Setup with truck air brake hose and fittings. Works great and mucho cheapo and plenty loud! Guy on another board I'm on actually built it, I got the setup for $200. The tanks and pump are mounted to a board I just keep in the back of my truck in the passenger cabin, pump rarely cycles unless I'm laying into the horn so it doesn't bother me having it back there.

Not sure on the exact model #, but the horn I'm running is one of these, dealer said it was the deepest tone they made in that style. 1700 series trombone. http://www.airhorns.com/products.aspx?category=truck

That looks like fun. But I do not think there is any way I could fit a tank and compressor in the engine bay of my Ex. Maybe if I relocated both of the batteries - but what is the point of that.

Nice set up - horns are on my 'list'!

I bet the first Prius you pull up behind and use that thing on will immediately turn turtle. That would be worth it...

Does anyone have a normal schematic?

I'm trying to hotwire a used kit i just picked up and i don't understand how to hook up the horn switch.

Also, i have the power going to the top switch on the compressor, coming off of that to the pump. There are 2 leads on that switch, does it matter which wire is which?

Hi Elvis40

There used to be wiring diargrams on the Hadley website, have you looked there?
