the beast awakens!
as best i can remember, i parked it last in October of 2012. i think i picked up this load of hay,
and parked it in the shed for its usual winter nap. winter turned into spring, summer and fall and it has slumbered ever since.
the last oil change was done in september of 2012. it had 85350 miles at that time and has 85539 as of tonight.
i tried to get it going yesterday only to find out that the "slightly leaky" oil drain plug was completely stripped out. so there are 6 quarts of 15w40 in the dirt below the motor (well, 5.5 -- there was about a half quart left between the bottom of the oil pan and the oil filter).
so i got a new drain plug today, added 5 quarts of 10w40 and one quart of 20w50 (because that's what i had). and gave her the goose. after pouring a few ounces of fuel down the carb, he fired to life like i shut it off yesterday.
we've got 30 bales of alfalfa coming this week, and the trailer is already full with another 100, so i need the old ford to go pick up the 30 and it can sit on the truck until we get time (and help) to unload all 130. so that's why i needed to get it running tonight, otherwise it would probably still be sleeping.
got the rear brakes bled out (slow leak at the LR wheel cylinder), power steering is up to snuff, coolant is as close to the top as it ever is, transmission engages in all positions, fresh oil and its ready for it's 7 mile round trip to go get 30 stupid bales of alfalfa ....
anywho... sorry if i bored you .. just felt good to get it going and thought i'd share.
Cool that its back to work time, they do not set very well. At least that is how mine acts.
