I just purchased a 2001 F250 SD, SRW,4X4, 7.3 trying to learn all I can as this is my first diesel. Looking at the exhaust it looks large, what is the diameter of the stock exhaust on this truck. Trying to figure out if it has aftermarket exhaust.
You can't see much of the down pipe from the top. Get under the truck and look up between the back of the engine and firewall. If you see a flattened pipe you have a stock down pipe. Huge restriction, that's the part you need to eliminate. The rest of the exhaust is up to you and you wallet.
4" straight pipe and a straight-thru muffler (or none) after the DP is about all you need unless you going with big HP. You may have a Catalytic Coverter, you can get rid of it or gut it, depends if you have emmisions testing in your area.
