I've got an '85 F-150. It originally came with a H.O. 5.8L (H code). BUT, after purchasing it I found that it appears to have a 302...not that I REALLY care. Anyhow, I ordered a bunch of parts from RockAuto for it. I looked up an '85 with a 302, and I chose Motorcraft SP450s. WRONG PLUGS.
This engine has Autolite 45s in it (larger 13/16 hex). Best I can tell, I've either got vintage heads or just an old engine all together, The valve covers APPEAR to be original tol the '85, and the passenger side exhaust manifold HAS a provision for an O2 sensor. Any ideas or recommendations on which spark plug to run? Sure I could go back with the Autolite 45s, but is it the RIGHT plug to run?
As far as I know, no smallblock heads ever used 13/16 plugs, and they also never installed the o2 in the manifold, it was in the y-pipe. Can you post pics to give us a better idea what you're working with?
