working on a 97 7.3 E4OD for a friend and have run into a problem.. he brought it to me telling me it had lower power then usual (this truck already needed help before hand) and that it was at a dead crawl. I though maybe his fuel pump had finally bit the dust as it was already kinda on the weak side, so i ran a gauge on it and got back 55 psi at idle and about 60-70psi at 2k in neutral, so i figured that was about on par with how the truck was usually running, so we took it for a drive and it fails to move at anything but a dead crawl unless i manually pull it into second then it will move down the road at decent rate till 30 then i have to pull it into drive to which it will then immediately drop to the lowest gear, overdrive i think? and drop to 600rpm and slowly work its way up to 60+ with out dropping gears, im starting to think the transmission has finally hit the bucket but what has gone out? the od light is not blinking pressing the od button does nothing, there are no check engine lights and unfortunately my AE is 140 miles away and i can't scan for codes. anybody have a clue as to what might be out?
I'd bet the of light is burned out.it flashing but with a faulty bulb you don't see it.it has a code.need to check it before you can go any further other than guessing.

Well when u push the od off button it lights up but the tranny doesn't drop gears like it should, on tuesday I'll have it sent to Costal diesel if I can't figure it out
more information that i just found out the problems started after my friend took the truck to a car wash and washed the under body and the face of the motor.
I just went through some crazy e40d diagnostics with my 7.3 swap that i just did, kept cleaning connectors and plugging them back together and my transmission drive-ability problem fixed itself. The under truck wash sparked my curiosity.... theres a connector near the steering shaft on the engine side firewall and a connector on the driver side of the trans that connects to the range sensor and to a cross over harness to the solenoid pack on the passenger side.
keep us updated. last e40d i had that needed a rebuild ended up puking on the highway and overheated itself without warning except for the od light blinking. that light will blink for everything and when there is a issue i believe the tranny will go into limp mode from what im told. The e40d is also electronically controlled via solenoid pack, not sure if you knew about it. Definitely start with the basics to save some money in case you have to bring it to a tranny guy.
