My other half is the burn the house kind too, and probably the neighbors house just in case there might be one there. So I have not told her yet. I have snakes in my shop and garage all the time. I just poke them a bit and they leave. They never do anything, but I would rather not have it in my house. I am thinking to try the sticky board thing.
I was working in an old house about 2 years ago. We were on the third floor and 2 black snakes came out of the ceiling. They were 4-5' long. The old farmer woman who lived there just picked them up and took them outside. The husband who was from the city ran out screaming like he was being killed. My helper would not go back in. I had to finish the job myself. The only snake I ever had trouble with was a rat snake. Not poison but aggressive. They bite if they think they can eat you.
Send somebody down there to retrieve the items that doesn't have a problem with snakes, the snakes will move on out with human activity........
Then you can welcome the rats and mice in.
I know what you mean. As I think about it, there haven't been any mice here for about a year or more. So I guess I have had the border down there for a while. And there might be more than one.

We had a mouse infestation in my shop last year, the damage and filth was incredible, I will take a couple snakes over them any day.
Spiders..........Now there is one I have NO use for........I hate them!
Guy asked me to take care of his pet tarantula while he was gone once........Yeah, I will take care of it.........with a can of RAID!
If you have snakes, you are surely harboring snake bait as well. Mice, rats, squirrels, moles, voles, all of which are disease ridden, filthy animals that will do a lot of damage to your house. Keep the snake. Especially if it is a king snake because they will eat the rodents and any other snakes as well. If you have a king snake the place will stay pretty sanitary. It's a win.
