I cant seem to keep enough coolant in my radiator to cover the holes( flumes maybe) pushes it out to the over flow tank. Does not over heat at allways sits around 2-210 mostly. System will hold pressure for a couple of days at least after i shut it down. Done a 13lb leak test and it held there and didnt move. Funny thing is it dont draw the coolant back in im assuming because of the pressure it holds. Cracked the cap 2 days after i last drove it and let pressure out. Edit: 88 7.3 na new motorcraft t-stat and 13lb cap.
my tow truck will hold pressure like that, it runs cool so I never worried about it, maybe there is a pinhole in your line to the over flow, when it tries to draw back in coolant it's just sucking air.
Is it holding pressure or vacuum?
When you crack the cap, does coolant or air come out? (pressure)
Or does it suck in air? (vacuum)
If its holding a vacuum, I'd check to see if there is something clogging up the overflow hose. Maybe its making enough pressure to push the coolant out, but can't suck it back in. Could be some crud floating around at the bottom of the overflow tank.
