What is cool to have, what has a major impact on safety, what are must haves for work or recreation. Example: the technology package- this option in some models replaces a back up camera, which is obviously very useful, but if you don't tow do you need the tech package or is it just cool to have. Example 2: what axle configuration based on use and engine? Etc. etc. etc.
Thinking Forward we can assume that allot of this technology will become standard in future vehicles so if you buy the most advanced technology I think you will recoup the cost when reselling the vehicle plus you have a safer vehicle.

Interesting thought. My buddy just bought a 2014 F-150 Plat 4x4, EB 5.5' bed and the truck had an MSRP of around $54K. He got it for around 44K. He's since added about 2K worth of goodies, a bed cover, line-X, weathertech mats, vent shades.
For this truck he traded a (bought new) 2003 Expy Eddie Bauer with all the goodies available in 2003, MSRP over 42K at that time. 138K miles and the dealer gave 5k in trade against his plat.
Obviously if he had traded at the 5 - 6 year point, he would have netted more on trade. I believe that in depreciation, you reach that "pay back" point but when that line is crossed, you may as well keep it and extract the last bit of life from it.
By the time the 2015's are 10 years old, who in the devil could possibly imagine the amenities available and the whole sale value or possible net worth of a well kept truck.
All the truly important safety features are included in even the most stripped down trucks.
Backup camera and trailer brake are two that are pretty important in the resale market around here. e-locker is a very good deal for what they charge, although I'd guess 95% of owners don't use it ever.

Or they do use it on ice and slide into a pole. seen that happen. or wonder what that clunking sound is under the truck so they dont use it.
Two big disappointments with the configuration options so far:
1.No luxury option (502) on the Lariat with a 2.7L;
2.No technology package on the Lariat with the 2.7L
Build and Price confusion, from the lariat package when I chose the Appearance Package Sport the details describe angular color accented running boards and a small picture shows them, but after processing the choice the large picture of the vehicle does not show them. Hopefully its just a glitch.
