Only when it's cold out the engine light flashes for alittle bit. Then after it warms up its stops. Or if it's alredy warm out it dosent flash. It was fine from spring till now. What does it mean? And I don't belive I have a computer in my engine any more the spot for it is empty and there is spot under the dash for a plug.
Mine does the same but only when it's -15 C and colder. Not always but often enough that I was concerned. However, once the truck warmed up the cel went out. When I test for codes I get a pass on KOEO as well as KOER so I don't worry about it anymore.
This summer I took apart as many of the connections as I could find and cleaned them and put them back together. I'll see if it happens again this winter.
I don't know what to say about your empty slots for your computer but I always thought an 89 wouldn't even run without one.

It's a 89 f250 7.5L lariat
EFI still or has it been converted to a carb by a previous owner?
Computer would be behind the parking brake pedal assembly its harness connector seen from under the hood.
As seen in the below image labeled "EEC connector".
if converted to carb the computer might very well be gone but if factory yet its gotta be there someplace.
Be aware that what those photos, as well as the photos posted by flicka426, show is the plug from the engine compartment harness to the computer. The actual computer is inside the cab. It is located inside the driver's side kickpanel with the wiring socket penetrating the firewall.
