the F150 is the same way, 20" wheels on the truck with an 18" spare.

Not with my truck, but plenty with my Jeep. Since that has front and rear lockers, I run a spare that is the same size as the rest of the tires. That way I can keep going when things are challenging, without having to bypass. But I'm usually out with at least 4 other guys. There's been times we needed multiple winches. We have also got guys out of trails after they twisted rear driveshafts and could only run with front wheel drive. You just have to realize that stuff happens and you'll have to deal with it.

If you want a spare that matches the rest and it is important to your performance, go get one. Personally, if I were offroading in a super duty, I probably wouldn't be running the stock tires.
