Yep. That's a vacuum nipple. Prolly the source of your stumble. Cap it off.

Yes, just capped it off and taken a drive from cold and it's massively improved. Just the slightest bit of hesitation for a couple of minutes, but nowhere near enough for the engine to stall like before. Lucky I took those photos else I'd never have noticed!
