A few people have had issues using the B.E.S.T. map link in my signature. Google has been doing what Google does - changing stuff. I imported the map into the "new and improved" viewer and modified the link. Please try the link and let me know if it's any better now.
Okay I see the map and the name of the member, how do you get a hold of them on that map? Or do you have to come back on here to PM them. Just had a guy help me out and it was great, but a member here sent him my way. Thanks.
Ah... great question. The B.E.S.T. map is nothing more a tool that says "Hey... if you get over your head, these is where all the volunteers lurk". We are not a service center per se - the only profits to be had here are "comradery" (and camaraderie), knowledge, encouragement, and an opportunity to help people. With that - a phone number or email open to any lurker, and the knowledge you have the technology to scan any Ford built after 1996 would roll the map up right-quick.
PMs or open request will work - that's the "frivolous filter".
How about having names for knowledge and tools? I don't have AE, just the torque app. a wealth of knowledge tools and a garage (not sure if it would fit an SD) I have access to almost any tool that would be needed to help a brother out even though now I don't own an SD I hate to see the knowledge go to waste.
The map is for anyone with a scan tool, but a scan gauge will solve most problems - particularly if you know how to read the meaning of the data. PM your Zip, first name, and what you have - and I can pop it on there.
I used to have it open to everyone, but people not familiar with the features made mistakes - and it was vulnerable to sabotage from those who would be inclined to do so. It's a big and crazy world. When it was just a few pins, it would have been easy to clean up the mess, but it's getting substantial now - and it would be a shame to start over.
I was reviewing a few of the pins, and discovered some of the members put what I would deem too much information in there - things like phone numbers, real addresses, email addresses, and social security numbers (that last one is an exaggeration). Given the threat to privacy - and the possibility of some insensitive jerk with a 1997 Tempo with a slipping torque converter calling a member at 2:15 am (coming home from a bar), or dropping by unannounced with a smoking, leaking hulk - I'm reviewing pins and purging personal information.
Since I brought all of this up again, new pins are popping up. I'd like to thank all of those who participate, this is one of those things that separates the trolls (seen on other forums) from the brotherhood that has amassed here at FTE.
