I have been cursed with motor mount trouble lately, I have broke three drivers side potor mounts, and it is getting annoying, as i only have a stock 302 2 barrel engine in my 1970 ford f100 and although it is no slouch it aint no torque monster either, so back to my question, if properly fabricated would solid steel engine mounts work (the mount that bolts to the engine block) to replace the stock rubber ones.
any help greatly appreciated

Yes it should work. Remember that if you are going to mount the engine solid the tranny must also be mounted solid. Otherwise you could start breaking bellhousings.
I put one on my windsor with enough slack for normal driving withough using it then when launch hard the chain takes the force and the rubber doesn't break.
If you mount the engine solid you will get a lot of vibration, -that is why they are mounted in rubber in the first place. You should not be breaking mounts tho. A broken passenger side mount can put stress on the opposite mount also. I have used a chain in the past on an old 500+HP 390.

My truck originally had a 351/C6 in it. The previous owner swapped out the engine for a 79 460/4 speed and fabricated up some trick solid steel motor mounts. It doesnt vibrate at all. You cant even tell that they're is no rubber. I recommend this if you keep breaking mounts.
Well, a few links of chain don't get in the way -- but, you know, there's something else causing this -- especially if it just started happening after 30 or so years of no trouble. And a light-tailed truck with a 2bbl shouldn't be twisting the engine off its moorings. The other motor mount or the transmission mount or....
