Strange ignition problem... could use some ideas??

Ok, its actually on my wifes 64 Falcon.. But I trust the knowledge base of this forums members more than any others..

1964 base model
200 ci

Alternator was installed by PO

When I shut the car off, the generator and oil pressure dash lights stay on. I am unsure what else is energized, and power will drain.

I have to quickly turn the key to start-and then back off (without starting) and the lights will go out.

I just replaced all the parts of the ignition switch today hoping it was as switch issue.

It still does the same thing..

What alternator is installed? If it is a Delco, sounds like the energizer wire is hooked to the ignition side of the switch instead of the accessory side.

I think its still the same issue. Try a simple test while shutting off and
the warning lights are on pull the plug on the regulator and see if the
lights go out, if so just maybe the regular points are not releasing, or
like the previous reply- like a Delco its wired wrong +plus reg.exiter
wire goes to accc. side of ign sw. Buy the way most fomoco products
went alternator in 1964 (more or less) like I had a 64 galaxy with alt.
and a 64 F350 with generator, could be an early truck. If maybe yours
could have been early with a generator & and somebody changed it
with out getting into wires = we used to put a diode on the trigger wire
(the ign. one) that ended that. cheap at radio shack.
