I don't know if my sign. will show my veh.. I've got a 1999 Superduty 7.3 4x4 extended cab.
My son borrowed my truck yesterday and today when he brought it back the passenger side rear extended door won't open. The handle pulls etc. but the door will not open and we've pushed pulled etc. but it's still shut.
From trying to open it I believe it's the top that's stuck or hung.
Is there a way to get this open ? I've thought about taking the handle part open just to see what's there. I noticed also there's a gray plastic cover inside the cab where the closing thing is. Is that a possible way ?
Any and all help will be appreciated.
Thanks
I would open it up and look for anything disconnected. I don't know if there is a way to unhook the latch from the inside somehow. Maybe look at the other side. Can you slide a piece of thin metal from the inside to depress the latch?

Please don't blame your son....those plastic pieces that hold the cables in place are brittle and dry...they crack and fail for no reason. Why if I did not know better...I'd say that some engineer at Ford built them that way so they would eventually fail and generate some revenue for a dealership.
Thanks to everyone for your help.
And bigtexan thanks for the link in the video.
I've got one question.
Do you have to remove the opening handle in the pillar, it's the one you see when you open the front door ?
No, I don't recall having to remove the read door open handle....the one you see when you open the front door.
One thing that is helpful is if your other rear door is still working, remove the panels, peel back the plastic and use a flashlight to see how the cables operate.
Once you see it, it makes so much sense and its really hard to describe otherwise.
The top latch is the easier one to fix....its really just a matter of positioning the cable in the right place and then using zip ties to secure it in that position.
