I currently have 4" explorer pro comp lift and 35" tires w stock 3:73 gears. I have been looking at the super lift 6" kit and going to 37". For those that have done this are you happy, wish you had went 8" with 38" or stayed with 4" 35". I don't haul a trail anymore, truck is not my daily driver. It's what I drive now to put a smile on.
The 4" Explorer Pro-Comp I installed in my late 99 when it was new with 35 BFG's. Traded the truck in for my wife's X.
Ordered a 2000 and installed the 6" Explorer kit. I went with the 6" due to a tire rub in choppy situations wheel cranked in big potholes, etc. I tried some larger tires but gear ratio off the line sucks. Unless you are prepared to go to a minimum of a 4:10, then stay with 35" or less.
The ride of the 6" sucks compared to the 4".
Stay with the 4 Inch Explorer Pro-Comp regardless if it's a daily driver or not. IMO
If you do want to go with a 6" lift, keep the 4" springs and get the 2" brackets. Your ride quality goes down the tubes when you go over 4" of lift with springs alone. My buddy has the 4" with the 2" bracket and while his is nice and smooth, mine bounces along like a wagon. That being said, I like my 6.5" lift on 37" and I think 37's are the best looking option as 35's just look too small IMHO. The downside for 37's is the availability of tires depending upon what wheel size you go with. I run 17's so I don't have many choices. As far as gears go, if you drive more highway miles than city it pays off, if you drive more in-town miles than city, you will lose mpg's. I posted a pic on here someplace that shows my tac at 1600 rpm going 65 mph with 37's and stock gears. Does not have blistering speed from the take-off but the engine sure does appreciate the workload going down the interstate.
My lift is 15 years old, it sagging bad. Here's my predicament. I need a new lift, I have 16.5 centerline so tire selection is even more limited, My thought was 6" lift with military bfg 37x12.5x16.5 load rating D. I found 4wheelonline has lift for $870 free shipping and felts tire with decent price on these tires.
I ended up ordering the super lift 6" kit, should be here next week. Going to look at a local place that has the 37x12.5x16.5 military bfg take offs. Time to start planning everything out,
6" super lift kit arrived last night, if rain holds off hoping to get it installed this weekend. Off topic but is there an easy way to post pictures when using iphone4?
Do you have a D50 or a D60? Ever do any off roading or doing it for looks? In my opinion (don't take it the wrong way) 12.5s look way to skinny, granted you don't have the rubbing I had or the 20x12 rims but it's hard to be the stance of a 15.5 wide tire. Going with 12.5s is a good choice and your front end will thank you for it.
I have the d50, initially the lift and tires where to keep me from getting stuck at the mx track when it rained. This go round is about looks i guess and cheap tires. The lift which I needed new shocks and springs anyway plus the Humvee tires are cheaper than a new set of bfg a/t 35x12.5x16.5 which was all i could find available for my rims.
