F550 TORQUE

I currently own a 2012 F350 which I believe rates the 6.7 at 400hp and 800fp torque. Been looking at a class c rv on a f550 chassis which rates the 6.7 at 300hp and 660fp torque. I like the performance of mine when pulling heavy trailers. Is there really a difference or just the way the ratings are done? Thanks.

Chassis cab trucks have differences in the turbo, fuel system, and exhaust. The engine "tune" is also different. You are also correct in that the rating system is different, but still, the engine has slightly less power than the pickups.

Just to add the reasoning towards the different power rating, it isn't just about durability but also emissions. Commercial vehicles over a certain GVWR rating actually have to meet different emissions targets versus vehicles that have a lower GVWR. Unfortunately I don't recall where that line is drawn.

Thanks Jus2shy. Another EPA gotcha. Might have to go back to a 5th wheel and use my F350.
