cold white smoke

Ok i know this has been discussed quite a bit. My 88 blows alot of white smoke at start up and for about a mile. After a little heat builds it quits. Does seem to miss cold. Measuring gps and cracking lines seem to be the only way to diagnose. Pump is very fresh less than 1k miles but the injectors have about 3-4k. They are pensecola remans $159 a set. Dirty injector or bad. Dont mind replacing it if i find it. Was about a month after i put new ip on. Maybe got some trash in lines?

Might be both bad glow plugs and crummy injectors. Knowing what I do now, I'd not buy any 'remanufactured' injectors -- they're all just cleaned and matched. No parts are replaced.
I've had a couple of them flake out, or become leaky.

Having recently gotten a set of new Delphi injectors -- even at $350 -- it's a much better deal. They are nice and tight, pop consistantly and don't leak down over night. (I had one that ended up slowly leaking half the fluid in the line out, so it would run on 7 for the first minute or two(less if I revved it) until it pressurized the line again.

Not all of them are just cleaned and matched, there is other processes that go into them as well. You are correct in saying that no hard parts are replaced, but its not correct to assume nothing is done to the hard parts to make them function like a new set... It is possible.

That being said, I cant comment on the work that goes into Pensacola injectors.

If the injectors were just cleaned and put back together, they could have a couple with hanging pintles if it runs rough. Most likely the rough running is from unmatched pop pressures, and white smoke is common on any IDI when its cold, especially if the timing is slightly retarded.

Is your cold advance hooked up and working?

Most of the time its a scored pintle bore that causes injector to act up and squirt funny.

No cold advance is not hooked up. Dosent run rough after a half mile or so. Im thinking injector since it is all of a sudden. I also seem to be losing coolant. None in oil. Not overheating at all either.

Try hooking the cold advance up and see if it does anything for the smoke, That is its primary function besides warming the truck up faster.
