146,813 mi and on my third right front caliper since 105,000. Seems like it's bad again as I've got pedal feedback on braking and the right front is way harder to spin than the left front. Any ideas why? Some have been replaced by independent shops, one by Ford. Anybody else have a caliper eating monster?
Not I, but have you changed the lines for the fluid on the van? Could be there is some corrosion or there is a heat source keeping the fluid hot causing it to activate/push the brake pads to make contact. This is just a swag, but I think that you might want to look and see the condition of the lines.
I put disk brakes on my drum brake motorcycle once and there was just a little pressure on the master to keep the pads engaged and the thing would lock up after a while. It does not take much.
When any of the calipers were changed out, was the soft line also replaced??
The soft lines can go bad internally, create a bulge inside the line, and act like a "check valve", pedal down, applying pressure, release, and the pressure is mantained in the caliper, but this would be noticeable with the brakes dragging also. Normaly eating up the rotors first.
If these so-called "mechanics" have simply just changed out the caliper and not checked the flexible lines you really, really need to find new "mechanics".
I'm hoping you've reported to each successive "mechanic" you're having repeated problems, that it might not be just the caliper failing?
Thanks y'all. My bad, "only" 2 since 105,000. One by a local shop in 2008 ( we don't drive the bus all that often as you see) with hoses, then one at a dealer when we had out of town issues about a year later. Between brakes dragging, ABS light coming on over bumps, a leaky axle seal and a seemingly unsolvable vibration issue I'm so tempted to go trade this one in on a (forgive me) Express 2500.
