Brakes dragging

What, exactly, causes the brakes on disc brakes to drag? I know the pads are staying pressed to the rotor but why? I've been told that the soft part of the lines can get weak and partially colapse thus not letting the fluid backwards enough to bread contact between pads and rotor? Is changing the caliper the first thing to do? Thanks.

Could be any of several issues. First would be the caliper slides are sticking, caliper piston siezed, partially crushed brake line, pads worn at an angle, I have seen all those problems. I have never seen so far a weak line collapsing on its own, but once I had a dented brake line which under pressure would send fluid to the caliper, but the fluid did not have the pressure to release the caliper. I am more thinking rusty or sticking brake slides are most common

You would need to disassemble the brakes, inspecting everything, and clean the slides , and hopefully the problem will be easy to see.

I would put my money on the slide pins sticking. Get a baby bottle brush, brake cleaner and hi temp brake grease and clean them.

I have to clean mine every 20K or so.

Mine were sticking and i found that it was the pads and clips where they meet up with the caliper mount. I took out the anti-rattle clips and cleaned the rust out and haven't had a problem yet.
