Exclamation not sure exactly what I have

It is a 55 1 ton dually former dump truck. That was the easy part. It original had a 272 y block. When I got it it came with a 67 390 gt engine in front of the original bell housing and drive train. Before I tear her down I am wanting to find out if any of you know if the trans will bolt to an FE bell housing. Then there is the rear axle. The tubes are each made of 4 pcs of welded angle iron. The diff is a dropout like the 9 in but it has a diff cover as well. It has the large 6 bolt lug pattern for the wheels as well. Any ideas????? BTW the way the FE starter mounts to the y block bh is a work of wonder and mystery. The starter is clamped in.

Welcome to FTE.

IF you really do have a y-block bell cobbed up to an FE with the OEM trans, it is probably a T98 with a "square" bell to trans pattern. You will not find an FE bell with that pattern afaik, as the FE came into the pickups after the change over from "square" to "butterfly".

Most of that stuff probably belongs in a smelter, but pics would be amusing.

Replace with later stuff that is not compromised. Serving suggestion....

Did a bunch of digging and found that the same trans was used behind the FT engines. Can also drill other pattern in the FE bh or use the front off of a T18 trans. Regardless of which road I take it is doable.

Talking 390/y block bell housing

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to this. This post is long but it explains a lot.
YES, it was a Y block bell housing.I know this because of the shape of the bell housing in the area around the starter. The bump where the nose of the starter goes was quite a bit longer as well as the diameter of the mounting hole for the starter was huge. They do share the same bolt pattern at the engine.
My buddy has a scrap yard and in it there are numerous large shipping containers that are packed with auto parts. Picked up the 361cid FT bell housing and the flywheel for $75USA. Because FT motors are ext balanced as opposed to into like the FE I had to have the few balanced. All of these parts came out of an older F700. That meant I had to get a 13 inch diameter clutch. It is a LUC 6 puck ceramic and at about 2 in off the floor she is in full contact. Clutch Is rated at 340hp and 550 lb/ft of torgue. Drives nice, and engages realm smooth. An other unexpected plus was in the starter. I had an almost new started in it but I had grabbed the F700 one just cuz. It wouldn't spin over so i called the parts house and asked if they had another on and they did. Losting showed the truck and the automotive are a direct swap. Turns out that they one they had was bigger than the one that I pulled out of my rig but the same as the F700 and was a way heavier duty one. $26.60+tax and I was home putting it in.. Worked great. Also learned that ford used the T-18 4spd up until64-65 and supposedly quit them all together. The bell housing I picked up was from the 70's and the center hole in it was just right for my 55 transmission. Now my drive train is as heavy duty as it should be.
