Hey I need to know what kind of trannys bolt up to a '64 292? how many bolt holes on the bellhousing? The measurement between the bolt holes? Which side does the starter sit on? and for a brain teaser I have a 1989 5 speed manual tranny, will it bolt up to a '64 292?
hey Where can I get a adapter for the 5 speed cause its one piece bellhousing and case? is it 4 bolts from the bell to the engine or tranny to bell? I thought so that all the starters are all the same. thanks reply shortly!
I have a T5 5 speed bolted to a modified bell on a 1964 292 truck engine. You can send your bell to http://www.ford-y-block.com/ to have it modified and get the parts to use the stock clutch pedal and fork and starter. Pics are in my gallery. 4 bolts bell to trans. Another way to bolt it up is with an adapter from Bendtsen's http://www.transmissionadapters.com/ford_y_block.htm
If you just want to bolt on the T5 then the modified bell is a cheaper option than the adapter. The adapter has the added benefit of allowing the use of AOD trans and other Ford auto trans.
dang i was hoping there was a adapter and yea its a one piece i was hoping i could use my 1989 5 speed out of my f150 but thats ok i will figure out what i can do and i want a stick tranny tho anywayz thanks for the help keep posting lol
Is that Clark an OD type transmission in 5th gear?
What is the model number?
I recently bought a ZF S 5-42 5 speed transmission from Craigslist and while it would be an excellent choice for my F-600 I don't think there's an adapter to connect it to a Y-block (it's a diesel bell) That adapter for the Y-block matches up to the SBF (351 etc) bell I think....
I am going to try and find a ZF 5 speed from a Ford 1/2 to 3/4 ton 4x4 that has a 300/351 in it I guess.
My other choice is to trade the 5 speed to a friend up the street for his E4OD automatic.
The 55 F-600 has a GVW of 16,000lbs. The ZF S 5-42 is used in the Ford Super Duty trucks. They are rated at 15,000lbs I think. The ZF 5 speed transmission is the same one used in all the trucks. They change the case for different bell housings but the internals are the same as far as I can tell. A friend of mine put on in his Superduty and routinely drags a mini excavator around with it. Hi Super Duty has a huge service body on it and the whole mess weighs more than 20k.

Seems to me a pickup model ZF would be too light for that application.
As for the original question, if it's a T5 he turns to for his Y block, these fellers have the adaptor.
I have a 5.83/8.11:1 2 speed Eaton. With the 40" tires I'll get about 2100 in top gear with an overdrive.
My other choice will be to use the E4OD automatic my friend took out of his Super Duty.
It's got a diesel bell housing though......I may have to trade it for a trans that would bolt up to a 351 to get a bell that'll adapt to my Y-block. AN E4OD would probably work pretty good behind that 292. Also, if I do that I'll have to get the Parking brake unit that bolts on the back of the trans. (He kept his when he put the ZF in his truck)

HT32BSX115 - sorry to dig up this old post - but did you ever find a 5 speed to bolt up to your 292 F600. If so - what model transmission did you get, what was the donor vehicle and what did you have to do to get it to fit???? thanks
