Ok... I've been digging and can't find any conclusive explanation of how to easily adapt a t5 behind a 223. Some must have done this. How do you connect them and what is the parts list?

bellhousing

if memory is correct i think speedway carries the bell housing for the T5. it also states that u WILL need to use another starter, there's of course. i recall the housing is around $200 and the starter is maybe $300..

There is an adapter made that you use with the 3 speed bell housing. Looks the simplest way to me. Check Mummerts Y block site...

edit; seems you have to modify the bell housing...

What year is your truck? If it is 53-on, the bellhousing with mounts will be too deep, the T5 input shaft won't reach into the pilot or clutch disc. You'll have to use a different BH.

Mummert actually welds and machines a sbf bellhouse down to make it fit correctly. You send them a core and they modify it.

Here's an alternative, should apply to the 6 as well as the V8: The Ford Barn - View Single Post - Flathead to T5 help needed

Well it looks like I need to find a mustang t5 and an s10 tail price for the shifter location. Can find some one local to weld the lug to the bell.

You can't really "weld" a lug onto a cast iron BH. I'd go with a steel car BH and add a rear crossmember. I'm not sure how the truck clutch linkage would interface with the car BH's clutch arm, but they are pretty similar on the surface. I have a steel car bell if you are interested.

NOTE -- I just re-read that linked post; the guyh is doing the T5 on a Bonus Built, not at all the same animal!

You might want to check your facts...you CAN weld cast iron. How do you think Mumerts modifies their bell house?

Are the 3-sp BH's that are modified per Mummert's made of aluminum? In the picture on their site it appears to be.

I suppose that may be. Were those bellhouses aluminum from the factory?
