A Cheetah tank is MUCH safer. The tire guy where I used to work used starting fluid and a match to expand the tubeless big rig tires. One had a weak casing and about put him through the wall which involved the safety guy which led to much safer mounting with a Cheetah tank.
7 seconds to fill to 80psi? Wonder how high his line pressure is.
That stand underneath is important. When the side wall bulges out the tire will jump.
I want one of these but they are about $200 new or used around here. Northern Tool has one that also has a female disconnect so you can use it as an air tank too.
I learned from watching the shop I used recently to leave the tires in the sun to soften them and make the sidewalls more flexible.
Also, spread the sidewalls with 3 or 4 sticks or 2x4s to a few inches wider than the rim they will be mounted too. Leave them as long as you can and bring them to the shop that way.
i use 1X3 boards cut 4 inches longer than the rim width. put 4 in the tire to spread it, then put it 6 feet away from the kerosene salamander heater for 5 minutes.
this heats up the sidewalls to around 100 degrees, just enough to inflate them on the tire machine.
tjc, after watching the tire shop monkey punt with getting my 37s to seat on my 9.75 wide rims I think I can do at least as good. I'll get some concrete anchors and mount manual tire changer in the driveway. Thanks for confirming the wood spreader technique. The few days a year we need a heater here we just light something on fire.
all you would have to do in your neck of the woods would be to spread the bead, and let it sit out in the sun for an hour or two Leo.
up here in joisey it only gets hot enough to let the sun do the work for 2-3 months in the summer.
Nice job on that Cheetah tank. I've used them before and they do work good. Back when I used to work at the Ford dealer, some of the guys used to wrap wheel weights in duct tape and shove them into the Cheetah nozzle to see who could get one to fly the farthest across the back lot.
You can get the ball valve on eBay or Amazon, or any local plumbing place should have it.
