I have Goodyear Wrangler 36x12.5x16.5 Military tires and trying to mount them on 16.5x9.75 aluminum rims. I've verified the rim and the correct size is stamped into them, I've gotten the rims in the tire no problem, but no matter what I try I can't get the tire bead to touch both the front and back of the rim enough to let it hold air to reseat the bead. No matter what I try as soon as I get the tire close enough to the front bead, the rear lifts and lets all air flow through. I've tried cargo straps around the circumference, I've tried the straps in an X across the the tire, on strap on either side of the tread, I even made a contraption to lift the front bead up while holding the back down and moving it around, still no seal. I've run out of ideas. It looks like the sidewalls have fallen inward and just won't sit out far enough to touch both beads. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I think I may just have to bite the bullet and see if a local tire shop can do it for me. It's like asking for directions on a trip!
They would need to be balanced so you might as well let a tire shop do it anyway. For what they probably charge to just balance the tire, you might as well add a few more dollars and save yourself the work. I have done them myself before but have found that its not worth the work to do it yourself since you still have to take them to the shop.
you might want to try a cheater tank.(thats what we call them at our shop at work) its just an air tank with a nozzel on the end (it almost looks like a wide flat shop vac attachment) that you put at the spot where the rim and bead meet.with a air hose hooked up to your tire valve and the cheater tank wide open (@ 100psi.) you should be able to get it.
I found a shop nearby that will seat them. They have the bead blaster! I'm not going to use the ether and match or any other explosive method!!! That just has "youtube idiot video" written all over it!!!!!!!!! The tires don't need to be balanced, as I have BBs in the tire to balance them. Thanks for the suggestions!!
I tried every trick I knew of to air up my 16.5 tires, including all those posted here, I took it to a tire store that does truck tire. A bead blaster is in my future.

FWIW: It is a valid method of mounting beads if hardware is not available and was a good suggestion.
Trust me, ether, a match and me.....that is Youtube idiot video!!!! I know several people that have done that method, I've seen it done in the field before, just if I were to do it.......trust me......baaaaaad medicine!!! lol
