front clip removal

Im wanting to pull thr front clip off as a whole minus the bumper. Which bolts should i take out? Also does anyone know the approximate time it takes to remove old front suspension and add Crown vic start to finsh? Im having a Fab racing shop install and he wanted just a rough estimate.

Andy, I would first take pictures to remind you later where everything goes. You will need to remove the front bumper, radiator, battery, and some of the wiring.

If I recall correctly the radiator support will have (2) bolts that attach to the frame. The lower front fenders will have a bolt near the bottom. The lower vents inside the cab will have to be removed to gain access to a bolt or two that attaches to the inside of the fenders. The inner fenders will have (3) or so bolts on each side where they bolt onto the firewall.

Somebody else should chime in if I left out a step!

Stock suspension removal and crown vic install? I would shop around and ask for references. My wild a-- guess would be an 6-8hr job at a rate of around $60.00hr.

Good luck, Jason

I just took my front clip off piece by piece and if I put my beer down and used both hands I probably could have done it all in about 4 hours or less. There are benefits to taking it all apart in my opinion but if your front clip is mint and your not concerned with rust treatment, etc., one piece makes sense. On the 64 if I did it as one piece I would have:

1) Disconnect battery
2) Pull the front bumper
3) disconnect the front headlight harness at the bulkhead on the firewall and separate it from the rear tail light harness.
4) remove wires, etc. from the plastic clips on inner fenders, essentially both driver and passenger side inner fenders need to be clear of any hoses or wires.
5) unbolt inner fenders from the firewall, 2 bolts upper on drivers side, 1 bolt to a rubber strap on bottom of inner fender. On pass side its just the lower bolt to the rubber strap...I think.
6) On the bottom of the outer fenders, near the door, there is a bolt (both driver and pass side) that goes through the rocker and into the outer fender. take these out.
7) On my 64, there are access holes in the driver and passenger side cowl on the inside of the cab, you can't miss them. Inside those access holes are the rear fender bolts. These need to come out. NOTE: If you have a nice paint job and you want to protect it, you should put protection between the door and fenders. Once these bolts come out the weight of the front clip will want to push against the door edge...
8) This should only leave you with the 2 bolts holding the radiator support and essentially the whole front clip in place. NOTE: the front clip with inner and outer fenders attached, grille, headlights, etc, your probably looking at a few hundred pounds so hopefully you have helping hands.

The hood can come off after the clip which is nice as you can keep it on to protect the motor if need be. Its easier to remove without the front clip on IMO. I'm fairly certain I covered all the bases but you get what you pay for.......good luck and be safe
