I just got a 1973 f-250 with a 460. in checking the engine out I discovered it has a miss in the #4 and #7 cyl. I ran a compression check on all cyl. and they were really close. #1-135 #2-135 #3-135 #4-134 #5-136 #6-135 #7-135 #8-135. I put a new set of plugs in. autolite 25 , new wires, cap, rotor, and coil. still missing on same cyl. replaced plugs with equal on ac delco. still missing. when I get to a fast idle it acts like its trying to level out but as soon as I idle it back down . same dead miss. cant find a vac leak. is it possible that carb could be causing this. all other cyl are firing strong. just these 2. any help would be wonderful
Have you double checked the firing order? 4 and 7 are both opposite each other on the cap, and opposite if you or the PO mixed up between normal and HO firing orders.

I havnt tried that. Both haynes manual and on manifold have same order so I never second guessed it. But will try just for giggles to rule it out. Thanks
ok I tried the 4-7 swap. no change in the engine what so ever. my next move is to pull the intake off. maybe a vac leak. the 7 and 4 cyl are on the same rear channel of the intake. any ideas would be great and thanks for the ideas.
