Undercover SE Tonneau Cover Issues

For those looking at buying a cover…

When I purchase my truck I had the Undercover SE tonneau cover installed on my truck and although I usually haul stuff in my truck (ie. sleds, dirt bikes etc.) I really liked having the ability to keep things in the back securely.

My truck is used primarily for driving to and from work on paved roads. I have not been doing any off-roading with it but this cover has lasted two years and the hinge on one side broke. The cover is tough but the hinges are held on by 3/16” pop rivets into the plastic. Even driving it on paved roads the cover would shift around and I would constantly be readjusting to keep it straight on the truck. When the hinge broke it did lots of damage to the paint on both sides of the box and the cover is cracked at the hinge locations.

The fact that the Undercover SE couldn’t handle paved roads pretty much sums up how it would do if you go off-roading at all (or even drive on dirt roads).

Although it’s within the 3 year period for warranty, Undercover refuses to honor it since it was bought and installed with truck and not by me personally.

I won’t be dealing with Undercover or any THI companies in the future after dealing with them.

I’m looking into a few others that will fold or roll-up and allow me to haul stuff for my next one.

Thought I’d share my experience…

Broken Rivets and cracks

I am shopping around for a cover this week. Sorry to hear about your experience with them, I will avoid those ones.

There are so many out there, the potions are endless.

That looks ugly. I guess an advantage to a cover like BacFlip is it can't rub your paint since it mounts inside of the bed.

I just put on a Trifecta from Extang. Not a hard cover, could be sliced to get inside. But it is secure otherwise if tail gate is locked. Material stays on frame so cant be unsnapped. Folds easy, mounts easy. Probably could be stolen easy too if tailgate is not locked. Fits perfect, low profile, nice frame and material. I get it an A+ for value. Some others are cheaper with same tri-fold, but I wanted Extang because my old one held up for years outside everyday, no broken snaps or frames, and still sold for $100 on craigslist. Also lifetime warranty and USA made.

Bak Flips are junk. I had one on my 11 SCREW and it faded after 2yrs and all the rubber they use as hinges dry rotted and leaked. Also the rubber curled up on all 4 corners and leaked as well. No help from the company. If you live in an area that has hail it will dent it beyond repair.

I got the RetraxPro about three weeks ago and couldn't be happier.

I had a BacFlip on my 08 for over 4 years and about 100,000 miles with no issues. I have one on my 12 for 2 years and 55,000 miles. The cover is good, the customer service is terrible, even for something simple like a missing piece. How much was the RetraxPro?

That's a nice looking lid. Does it come off easy if you need to use the whole bed? I'll have to check those out for my next truck.
