460 conversion ?s

I have a 1979 Ford F150 with a 351M. I am putting a 460 in it and I am using the L and L headers and clutch and flywheel kit and the mounts. should i pay the extra money and get the kit or just get the mentioned parts. the kit includes alternator bracket kit, power steering bracket kit, and oil pan kit for an extra 600 bucks. shouldnt i be able to use my alternator and power steering brackets on my 351m and also save 600 buck?

If it is a 4x4 with no lift then you'll need a rear sump oil pan, dip stick. dip stick tube. oil pick up tube and mounting stud .. You should be able to get these for $150 to $200 used .. I would go with a saginaw power steering pump and bracket .. Are you running A/C ?

I would suggest finding a van with a 460 in it at the junkyard and pulling the Saginaw setup off it. Mine cost me $25. Or if you want to update to Serpentine then you can get the Entire accessory setup off a newer 88+ (I think that's first year serpentine), this would also get you a 3G alternator at the same time, though it would be the 90 Amp 3G and not the 130 Amp found in cars.

Back to your question. Yes, the 351M PS bracket will work on the 460. There's a lot more parts that will physically interchange, though there are some minor differences on some of them.

You can get a brand new Ford racing rear sump oil pan from Summit for $150. It is designed for a mustang 460 swap but works great on my truck. Comes with the pan, dipstick tube, dipstick, and pretty sure it came with the pump pickup. I am happy with it. I bought the LandL PS pump bracket and I wish I had saved my money and built my own. It works ok, but the PS pump pulley is still VERY close to the steering box (within 1/8-1/4"). I don't remember 100% because it has been a while since I did this swap, but I don't think the 351M PS bracket will work. IIRC either the bolt pattern was not correct or the pump was still going to hit the steering box. I could be wrong..
