My motivation when I'm stuck on something is to just sit in the cab and think about how to go about the problem or like what's already mentioned I read up on just about any and every build I see on here. Money is what holds me up mostly but every pay check gets a small amount put into the truck savings. My problem is that I'm very meticulous about things and it has to be done right the first time even if that means I have to go longer without being able to do anything with it. I spend probably about an hour or two a day on this site researching things.
Several things motivate me. First its the nice trucks and projects I see here on FTE, then its knowing that I am inching closer with each project I complete and I can look at my work and be happy. I also enjoy seeing vids on you tube and maybe some old movies with old truck in them (running ones!) Finally the ugly motivator is knowing there's always the threat of the local HOA who will get ugly if my project does not start moving. Hehe. Luckily they've only complained once when my front clip was off for a while. I guess when the bed comes off for cleaning and paint I better get after it.
I like the bow tie, trying to dress the 'ol girl up?
Didn't really think about it, but yeah you could say that. Funny thing is for as bad as looks she still runs pretty damn well. And that rack on the back....my dad and I built for his old 77 truck. That truck has more than a half a million hard abusive miles on it. And it was also at one time on the back of my 86 F150. Can't wait till the day I can get them both restored to their former glory.
My motivation is that if I don't keep working on it, you guys on here will ratbag me until I get back at it. I got a new job though so I'm away for a few weeks.
I have all of you to thank for keeping me motivated.
HIO and I had a few beers today.
I wish it was with every one of you.
No BS.
Thanks for a great day turbohunter! Good times! The 101 was a lil jammed but the 134 n Santa Ana were clear sailing. At the mouse house now kickin' by the pool... it's still frickin' hot.
paredneck thanks for the words, remember pretty much everything is fixable and you can get the know how to do it right here on FTE.
Lack of funds and work (or working alot, for long periods of time, overseas wah wah) go hand in hand. Gotta do one to get the other, and of course just getting the time to do it, is always the last hurdle. We need 3 day weekends!
My last motivator is hopefully my trucks will end up being wanted by the grandchildren......("Oh you are 16 now and want grandpaw to buy you a car, how about a free classic Ford truck instead?" lol
The youngest (3), loves to go for rides in the 71 Bronco, so he has dibs on that one all ready, lol. See, not so interested in the trucks, but loves the Bronco.
Bottom line FTE, what ever you do for motivation good, as long as you STAY motivated and post a build thread w/pics and info on FTE, cause it will help the rest of us for sure.
77&79, I was that young mans age when I told my grandpa I wanted his 48 ford coupe, and so its been mine for the last 30yrs and has sat in the same spot in his shop this whole time. I need to get a place for it and the other two things you mentioned, Time and Money.
Turbo and HIO, so you guys had a couple of beers and a mini FTE G2G huh?
Well you know the rules...lol
Lol
Yeah I guess it didn't happen.
There were no trucks involved at all so no reason for pix.
HIO had a deal to attend here in LaLa so he had to make a trip south.
He stopped by for some r and r after his drive.
Nice to hang with folks of like minds.
Rich I couldn't agree more with you. All I was trying to say though was don't take your trucks and your collection for granted. They are amazing. My 78 was ridden hard and put away wet for several years. Left to rot in some ones yard by the original owner. Even after he had the entire truck repainted once. Then his neighbors (a pair brothers) bought it and assessed the truck and determined that it needed too much work. So they listed it on craigslist. I saw the add, went to look at it, and yeah the ole girl was and is rough. But I realized it was a true ranger explorer and had the factory bed topper. So I had to save her. So now I have 3 trucks in need of a full resto and no place to work on them. Oh yeah that truck when I bought it had an aftermarket look a like style side bed that was completely shot. So I ended up with that bed for $100. I did have it on the road for a couple of years then I parked it when it needed a complete brake job. No big deal, or so I thought. I did the rears then went to do the fronts. And I found that the right front knuckle needed replaced since it was completely rotted through under the caliper. So I decided that I would find a set of good used ones which I did, and while I was at it replace the radius arms as mine are getting iffy at best. And I just looked at the last Pa inspection the other day and realized the ole girl has now been sitting for about 5 years. I had know idea it's been that long. Oh something else I started to fix on her was the instrument cluster, since it was turning to dust.
