What's wrong with repairing the one you have?

Just of the top of my head a Dana 60 from a 77-79 F250 (3/4 ton 8 lug) 2wd or 4wd truck and or E250 van should work??

Note I said "should" as I am not positive. Here in a few hrs the FTE world will wake up and more answers should be flowing in.

The possible issue is going to get the matching rear end ratio for the front end or at least real close.

You need to figure out what axle ratio you have, look for a tag that is held on with 2 rear end cover colts.

This axle has 3.54 gears in it.

Well alrighty then......you are off to the races.

I'll guess since no one is up yet, that as far back as a 73 would work, but just the axle.
You would have to ck the axle spring pad width, cause the older HB 73-77 rear springs are 2 1/4 wide, and your 77 is probably 3" wide.

So that older axle might not work?

Any rear D60 from a ford with the wide frame (38" and not the 34") will work, be it 2wd or 4wd. I would avoid the oddball D60's that are semi floaters from the early '80s.

Van axles have the differential slightly offset to the passenger side so this might not be a good option.

The sterling 10.5 with drum brakes is a direct swap also, with the exception of maybe a combination 1330/1350 u-joint, unless you find one with a 1330 series yoke.

Ok thanks guy. So don't use a dana 60 for the 80s. And stay away from all the vans?

Yes so old 73-76 Highboy truck with a frame that are 34" wide in the rear section will NOT work. Late 77 (77.5) to 79 with 38" wide rear frame sections D60 will work.

We both have said a 2WD (abbreviation for a two wheel drive) or or 4WD (abbreviation for a four wheel drive) will work.

77 .5 to 79 F250 rear axle is a Dana 60 and for the most part... well exactily the same axle between the truck models as far as I know. Anyone know different chime in anytime.

As far a getting one from a 2wd I am sure you would or could get quite a different gear sets ratio options than the 4wd ones?

But since you know you old rear end ratios, looking for a new/replacement axle with what you need should go easy.

I believe 3.54 and 4.10's seem pretty common.

The 1350 yoke and u joint is usually found in the F350 cab & chassis dually so it should be easy to avoid. If you come across the yoke count the splines, the 1350 has 31 of them and the 1330 has 28. If you find a 1350 buy it for $5 and sell it for 25 and up.
