My 98 XLT reg cab 2wd has the. 2.5 with manual 5 speed. The axle code is 84. This equates to. 3.45:1 rear gear. Isn't this a little tall for 119 brute horsepower?
Welcome to FTE.
We also have to consider how the tranny is geared & what size tires/wheels are used too. The Ranger 4banger with manual tranny was the small truck mpg champ.
Seeing as how your down in the flat lands of Fla. tall gearing shouldn't be much of a problem, like it might be for me up here in the Blue Ridge mountains, trying to lug & tug a load!!!!
I'd really like to change wheel tire size. 15's at least. 235 or 245 75R 15 tires. 27" loaded height. Not worked hard. Most work is small enclosed trailer for RC airplanes. Single axle 700 pounds.
I'm thinking of putting on a set of American Torq Thrust D wheels. 15x7 charcoal spokes. Ought to look nice on Dark Shadow Grey Std Cab.
