I love my truck (given) and it actually has a little grunt to it when pulling out into traffic but I feel it could have just a touch more. I was thinking of just replacing the OEM muffler with a Flowmaster and being done but wanted to see what you guys thought first. I want to stay single exhaust, I like the general area it exits from, and I have already done the Y-pipe mod. Thoughts? Would I be better off with an axle back type for a diesel or V-10? I can't seem to find anything for the X with the 5.4 (surprise surprise) so I just don't know what direction to go. The shop here in town said $125 for the Flowmaster installed so that seems affordable, but damn I remember paying $150 for a full custom exhaust back in the day with dual Flowmasters... WTF happened to the prices?!?
I don't really see a need to replace the OEM tubing though, seems like a waste plus if I just get the muffler done I don't have to get sweaty and dirty and pissed off when it goes wrong.
What the hell, how have I not got one response?!? Is it because my truck doesn't have that nice black smoke coming from the rear (unless I have a serious engine failure)?

That's not a bad price to have someone else do the work.
IMO spend the money getting the front end paint matched. You already have the y pipe done niether of your options are larger and the flow will be negligable. Gibson's cat back is the same size as the existing piping so how will you get 10-15 hp out of it?
I put these on my 02 F250 5.4L back in 2011 and ran them with 3" out the factory location for a bit then switched to 3" true dual out the corners of the bed till I pulled the motor for the swap. Sounded pretty mean. Dont see any reason they wouldn't fit the ex.

Effort of putting them on all depends on the rust state of the current manifolds. I drilled and tapped both sides and put in new studs when I installed mine. I thought it livened the motor up a bit (could have just been a I wanted it to be better so I thought it was better) but definitely got the sound I was looking for. Open headers was stupid loud.
Well being a TX. truck there is no rust at all so should be an easy job for the price I might just do it...
EDIT: And I'm done. I'm going to go with a muffler and call it a day. No more big work to the X at all. Saving up for that 6.0 where my money is appreciated
