Ok so today i went to Competition muffler and got an estimate and the guy said if i put on magnaflow dynomax or flowmaster and basically go all out i will be in the 500 to 600 dollar range wow that is a lot now i dont think i will ever afford that but i was maybe thinking just going custom does anyone know people who do dual exhaust work for cheap???.. basically i would take off the cats put in glasspacks and bigger piping and chrome tips out the sides or rear i know i should post this in the muffler thread but w/e Preppy im curious what do you got for an exhaust i like the sound of yours i would like something like that for my truck where did you get it done and how much
Actually I believe Competeion is the cheapest muffler shop in toon town here. I do a lot of deals with them and they are usually below the competitors.
Comp Muffler is the best as they stand behind their work totally and the best price for doing it properly. This is one more place you don`t want to try cheap out on. Trust me on that, I`ve tried and the results weren`t good. Best to leave it as is untill you decide to do it right or don`t do it at all.
I got mine done at minute muffler in PA. I got every inch of the old pipe replace with that expensive stuff that isnt supposed to rust. Im having a brain melt I cant remember the name of it. As for muffler I just got a cheapy muffler put on, and then the two chrome tips. Mine was expensive, cost me 800 bucks to get it done. Wont be going back to those guys at all anymore can garauntee ya that!
Yeah i know they sound like the best place maybe just try to find cheaper solution i just wasnt expecting it to be that much but i guess welcome to the real world Dustin
I have found that most kits dont give you the option to get rid of your cats, or offer you true duals. Effie your right, tips are expensive, I paid about 300 for my tips alone too.
Hey preppy, you removed the cats on your truck? All four of them? What did they do with the 02 sensors? Your truck is the 5.4L right? Does it run well with no check engine light and still get fairly good fuel mileage?
Dustin, someone told me to check out lmc truck because they offer exhaust bolt on kits cheap, but I've never checked it out myself. Had dual exhaust installed on my 86 from Midas and it cost 450 for glass packs and 2 1/4 pipe behind the tires. They did a nice job too. I know one option is to cut the front cat off on your truck, then get the pipes run back to mufflers from there and then over the rear axle and out. Less bends because they don't have to make the pipes up to the manifolds and flanges.
Yeah I have a 4.6 and I got all the cats removed. Mileage didnt decrease, if anything might have improved 1 or 2 mpg. It sure opens up your exhaust system having no cats. They put the o2 sensors in the pipe, and it doesnt throw the check engine light or anything.
when i got the stangs done they just ran a piece of pipe through my cats to knock all the stuffing out so it still looked like i had cats then ran 2.5 ss pipe to flowmaster 40's then to my stainless steel 3" tips like $1200
Sometimes if you keep an eye out at the wreckers you can get a good deal.My last two exhaust systems I got out at Buck's from vehicles that had been in accidents and had fairly new exhaust systems.I just had to cut them apart with my cordless reciprocating saw and then weld them back together.
