1965 F100 2WD Long Bed 3.03 Transmission ID
Well I still havent been able to locate a 3.03 for my truck. There seems to be a few of these transmissions around but identifying the right one for a 65 f100 is a whole nuther story.
I was wondering if ND (or anybody out there) could help me with the correct part number. If I understand correctly, the suffix on the tranny type pertains to the tail section (such as RAT H3). Anyone know what my part number should be?
Then there is the issue of whether a particular tranny that I find will work with my bell housing. (or whether the bell housing on the found tranny will bolt to my engine. Currently there is the original 240 but Im planning to upgrade that to 300.
I see some trannies on ebay but I would hate to buy them and ship them to Alaska without being damned sure it's the right one.
I need to do something about the current tranny that's in the truck before I can do much driving. It has a T-18 4 speed that was really mickey moused in there. Appears to be mounted solid to the cross member with some old engine mounts. and there is a dinner plate sized piece of thick rubber shoved between the tranny and crossmember for some reason. Im thinking this might account for the slight vibration I get in the seat at about 40mph.
Just for kicks, here is a pic of the way my 4 speed is mounted!

I started reading your post then started looking at the photo. I am glad I started reading again because WTF was blinking hard.
The 240 & 300 are the same block, the 302, 351C, 351W are popular Ford engines that share the same bell bolt pattern. ND knows better but I believe the 303 was very widely used in pickups for several years.
I am not sure when the 3 on the tree was dropped, but after 73 they were getting very hard to find in trucks.
Not sure if you are trying to stay in a certain window with your choice, but there are several trannys that can be adapted including automatic. (my choice)
Are there things that you just don't want to do with this??

Thanks to both of you...Jo and ND.
So if Im reading the chart right...it looks like I could use a HEF-BM, HEF-CJ, HEG-P or a HEG-U. I am making an assumption that since my truck is a long bed, that my Whl Base is 128' instead of 114".
Jo...Im not totally against fitting it with an Auto Trans. But it sounds like a lot of tinkering. I was thinking the simplest thing would be to put back what originally came in it which is the 303 on the tree. But I am finding that rounding up the pieces is the hard part.
I may have to just keep the 4 speed thats in it for now but will HAVE to figure out a way to mount it properly.
