flame thrower

I built a homemade exhaust flame thrower.

I hit the switch & a spark plug in the end of each tailpipe send a continuous stream of sparks.

It was really easy to do.

My issue is I don't have enough unburned fuel coming through the engine to ignight.

I get no flames.

Has anyone else done this mod? Anyone have any luck?

This is not the ignition cut out. I want to run this w/o washing the cylinders

I thought you had to pipe in a gas line with something like a main jet to reduce flow? Or I've heard of modern ones with a fuel injector. I can't imagine running rich enough to throw a flame.

Back when, they pulled the choke to make her run rich. I helped rig a couple but not mine. If I remember right, we used a model T coil or some type vibrator for spark.

on tv they ran a seperat gas tank in the back with a 12v electric fuel pump that shot the gas into the exhaust and the plug ignited that.

Yes, the ones I've done all used a separate fuel supply. The idea of using an injector nozzle as an atomizer is intriguing, I'll have to look into that further.

I've heard of people using a NOS nozzle. & I saw a youtube vid of a gut squirting propane from a little torch bottle.

I will have to do more research.

I was really hoping the 4bbl would dump in enough to make a good size flame.

Ax

How do you run the fuel line into the exhaust without it overheating & blowing up?

It likely would if you used the typical ignition cut setup, but as you said that raw fuel then has to go thru the engine to get to the exhaust.

It's been a long time since I rigged one of these, IIRC we used an electric solenoid valve after the fuel pump, the pump, valve and spark were all activated with the switch.

should be a simple setup it goes at the end of exhaust pipe last foot or so. so it doesnt really get that hot there.

I prefer to build it vs. Buy it.

Nothing against buying - but I like building

I will research propane injection. That seems safer to me than gasoline.
