solved spare tire lock socket

I had a thread going about my 2008 f-350 with a complete tire kit behind myseat but some where a long the line the tire lock socket that ford put in the glove box was gone. theres 16 different socket patterns and you have to be in the secret club and have 100 bucks to get one.

I tried all the suggestions with the 9/16 socket, #10 sears bolt extractor, tried cutting the cable end off, and the tire remained safely under the bed free from thieves.

so for some reason, I decided to try a 3 ft section of 1/2" black pipe with a cotter pin sitting on the edge of oe opening. I banged the pipe onto the tire lock attachment.....lo an behold..I was able to lower the tire by hand by turing the pipe. I yanked the pipe out after rewinding the cable with out the tire and double lo and behold, the lock device came right out. I tried my tire kit handle and now it works with out the lock.

free at last...I now have a spare tire that I can use.

I just use a 5' cable lock that holds the tire to the rear hitch assembly. It's easy to see so hopefully the bad guys just keep on moving down the street until the next F-250.

That Ford lock assembly is secure in my glove box, just where it needs to be.
