On a 1990 cab I did find a "dog tag" on the driver's side nearby the brake booster, was held in place with just a metal screw. On that same frame I found two vin numbers on the pass side frame rail. One was under the AC box and the other was just under the cab end next to the bed/cab parting.
Just do not mess up the VIN tag rivets, remount it and throw about twenty years of crud on top of it!
I've seen metal VIN plates on the door. And my old truck had one riveted to the block. When the engine was rebuilt we replaced the block, and the mechanic pried it off and handed it to me. I think it's still in the glove box.

Ford has not used rivet on vin tags in the doors since 79
Also, BS on the vin tag on the block. NEVER HAPPENED. There is a SERIES number though that is stamped or cast into the block to give an approximate date it was made
Just to be clear, you should NOT grind the backside of the rivets on the underside of the dash off being careful to make the top side of the VIN plate remain untouched. And you should NOT JB Weld your original VIN in place of the new cabs VIN. That would be illegal and it would also look like it never happened.

Or using black rivets to replace the originals. LOL
