NP435 transmissions
Trying to find out a bit about New Process NP435 transmissions. I have two here, one date stamped 1968, the other 1970. Both seem to be externally the same, same casting number except one has the letter 'P' after the number, the other the letter 'S'. Both seem to be the common 6.69:1 first gear ratio, the only discrepancy I have found so far is that the gearshift levers are NOT interchangeable, the two grooves and pivot pins in the gearshift socket and ball have different machining depths. Someone threw up that the difference is INTERNAL, earlier version COULD have a different input bearing, one tapered, one roller type. Have also been trying to establish (a) will a 240/300 inline six bellhousing change with a 302/350? Have an idea the spare I bought came from behind a V8 (this is the 68 build). (b) Did NP435 (Ford version) have DIFFERENT ratios , say for the inline six and the V8? Running 4.88:1 Dana diff originally, on 31 X 15 tyres, project vehicle is running 3.73:1 diff with same size wheels. BTW, the project vehicle weighs only about half the original F350. So, even with 3.73 diff (both vehicles are 2WD), reckon that there will still be a huge gap between gears, probably won't even use 1st. In an ideal world, I may be able to retain the Ford gearcase and swap out the closer ratios as used in Dodge or Chevy NP435's?
Have tried several different forums so far, without much luck, so any help forthcoming would be helpful as well as appreciated.
Cheers, Dave

I have one in my Dump. Granny 1st is a must have when loaded heavy. It also helps if you are trying to pull out a stump. I have 4:10 gears and 60 is basically top end just because alignment is by heat and jack and the tires start singing at that point.
Manual and the SBF pattern means you have a number of possibilities tranny wise.
